Autumn tour 2026 – WILDLIFE GUIDE Oliwier Myka - birdwatching & wildlife guiding in Poland

A 5-days tour to Białowieża Forest & Biebrza Marshes in search of birds and mammals.

The tour consists of visiting two different areas. In Białowieża Forest the tour will focus on the birds of primeval forest. This includes looking for woodpeckers (8 species – inlcuding Three-toed, White-backed, Grey-headed and Black), Pygmy Owl, Nutcracker and Hazel Grouse. Some of migratory birds are still on breeding grounds so we might be able to observe Lesser Spotted and Greater Spotted Eagles, Penduline Tit or Red-backed Shrike. It’s also home for European Bisons & we will also heep our eyes open for Wolves. A visit to Siemianówka Reservoir where waterfowl & waders gather in large numbers is also planned.
At the end of the tour we will visit Biebrza Marshes. This is where we will look for Cranes at their roosting site where their numbers exceed hundreds of individuals as well as for Elks. A dedicated evening Beaver boat trip will be also arranged.

During the trip we will also search for mammals like European Bison, Red Deer & Elk (they have rutting season in September), European Beaver and with a bit of luck Wolves.

Bird targets: woodpeckers (Three-toed, White-backed, Grey-headed, Black, Middle-spotted, Lesser-spotted), Pygmy Owl, Hazel Grouse, Nutcracker, Lesser & Greater Spotted Eagle, Penduline Tit, Eurasian Crane.

Mammal targets: European Bison, Elk, Beaver, Wolf.

OUTLINE ITINERARY:

DAY 1 (16th Sept)

picking up from Warsaw (Warsaw Chopin airport or Warsaw city centre) no later than 11 a.m.
journey to Białowieża (ca. 3,5 hours)
evening exploration of Białowieża Forest

DAY 2 & 3 (17th & 18th Sept)

two days of exploring Białowieża Forest

DAY 4 (19th Sept)

morning exploration of Białowieża Forest
transfer to Biebrza Marhes (ca. 2 hours) with a stop at Dojlidy or/and Knyszyn Fishponds
evening exploration of Biebrza Marshes

DAY 5 (20th Sept)

exploration of Biebrza Marshes
journey to Warsaw (ca. 2,5 hours), where the tour ends (Warsaw Chopin airport or Warsaw city centre) around 2 p.m.

What is included in the trip?

accomodation in clean, twin rooms with private facilities in owner-run guesthouses in Białowieża Forest (3 nights) and Biebrza Marshes (1 night)

I went on the Autumn Bird and Mammall Watching Tour. It was well organised and enjoyable from start to finish. Oliwier has a wonderful knowledge of the local area and we were able to see a wide range of wildlife. Highlights were red deer stags, bison and elk in early morning mists; racoon dogs crossing the forest path; the pygmy owl; and beautiful groups of cranes. No wolf sightings for me this time but that’s a good excuse to go back! Highly recommended.

Oliwier Is in the top three wildlife guides I have met in fifty years of loving wildlife. In four days we clocked up 82 species!! He really listened to what it was I hoped to see and so often delivered. An example was grass snakes – so rare in the UK He found a beauty for us as our photos prove! The Beaver safari was a particular highlight -we saw 7!! Close up! Oliwier THANK YOU SO MUCH I so hope to come again!
