WINTER TOUR

17th-21st February 2027 (4 nights)

A 5-days tour to Białowieża Forest & Biebrza Marshes in search of mammals and birds.

During this tour we will focus mainly on mammals. Main targets will be European Bison, Wolf & European Elk (Moose). The sightings of the two ungulates at that time of year are almost guaranteed, yet we will also try to find the elusive predator. Besides that other mammals possible to see during the tour will be Red & Roe Deer, Red Fox, Wild Boar, Red Squirrel, Pine Marten, Eurasian Beaver, Otter or even Lynx. Tracking is also planned as winter months in Poland are usually snowy.

While in the field we might also observe some good bird species, this inludes woodpeckers (incl. Black, Three-toed, White-backed, Grey-headed, Middle-spotted, Lesser-spotted, Syrian), Pygmy Owl, Nutcracker & Hazel Grouse but also passerines like Hawfinch, Waxwing & Crested Tit as well as birds of prey – White-tailed Eagles, Rough-legged Buzzards & Hen Harriers.

Group size will be very small to observe mammals more efficiently, approach animals easily & to enter the area unaccessible for larger groups.

OUTLINE ITINERARY:

DAY 1

picking up from Warsaw (Warsaw Chopin airport or Warsaw city centre) no later than 10 a.m.
journey to Białowieża (ca. 3,5 hours)
afternoon/evening exploration of Białowieża Forest

DAY 2 & 3

two days of exploring Białowieża Forest

DAY 4

morning exploration of Białowieża Forest
travel to Biebrza Marshes (ca. 2 hrs) with stop in Białystok city for Syrian Woodpecker

DAY 5

morning exploration of Biebrza Marshes
journey to Warsaw (ca. 2,5 hours), where the tour ends (Warsaw Chopin airport or Warsaw city centre) around 2 p.m.
