Last weekend I was a bird guide for a sympathetic couple from Alzace, France. We spent 3 days on Biebrza Marshes and after that we made an one-day excursion to the Knyszyn Primeval Forest. Biebrza has bestowed us with some amazing sightings. We have had White-tailed Eagles, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Spotted Eagles in three different locations, Rough-legged Buzzard, Hoopoes, Savi’s Warbler, Bluethroats, Spotted Crakes, thousands of Ruffs, Woodpeckers (Grey-headed, Middle-Spotted, Lesser-Spotted, White-backed), displaying Smews, Curlews and Bar-tailed Godwits. We have also observed a few Elks, Roe Deers, Foxes and Red Deer.
But undoubtely the highlight was an eveving’s visit on Bagno Ławki fen which brought us Black Grouse, Short-eared Owl and Eagle Owl (all 3 species seen comofortably!).
A short excursion to Knyszyn Primeval Forest and a change of the environment enriched our „score”. We have seen White-backed Woodpecker in a better conditions and also recorded Three-toed Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Firecrest and Nutcracker .
